BUS SERVICES.
TITIRANGI district.
AMALGAMATION URGED.
DECISION OF AUTHORITY.
Pome form of amalgamation between the Auckland Bu« Company and the service conducted by Mr. E. McQuoid is suggested by the Xo. 1 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr. E. J. Phelan, in connection with the bus services which operate between the city and the Titirangi district.
"I am satisfied that there ha* been much unnecessary friction in connection ■with the time-tables operated on thi~ route." states Mr. Phelan in the course of a judgment given. "The result is that the public has net had as efficient a service as would be the with proper co-ordination prevailing. In order to overcome this difficulty. a complete rearrangement of each time-table is necessary, and in preparation of *uch time-table Setter provision must be made for the residents of School Road *t Titirangi. It had been my hope that •-S a result of a direction at an earlier sitting thSt some finality between tbe parties would have been arrived at, and it was necessary, therefore, to the parties concerned the fullest opportunity to make representations.
Evidence of Residents. "From evident* submitted," the judgment continues. **I am satisfied that Mr. McQuoid is in a position to adequately serve the whole of the Titirangi area; further, the evidence of the residents has satisfied me of the desirability of allowing both services to remain ia existence for the time being, taking into consideration that the existing licenses do not expire until February, 1939. I feel that it is in the best interests of the district, and the operators themselves, that the above decision should be made. but. nevertheless. I am still desirous that no effort should be spared during the course of the current license to arrive at some form of amalgamation." Best Service to District. The judgment lays it down that the time-table and route arranged in conjunction with the Auckland Bus Company should give the best possible service to the district, with the total number of trips on the Auckland-Titirangi and Auckland-Laingholni services to be neither more nor less than the trips agreed upon and operated by the Auckland Bus Company, the time-tables to be so arranged that the first trip departing from Titirangi by one or other operator shall be at 7 a.m.. and that there shall be from the city each evening trips departing at 7.30 and 11 p.m., and a special trip on Fridays departing at 9.15 p.m.
New time-table* were submitted by both parties, and are now being operated.
