POACHING of LEAGUE PLAYERS
TWO YEARS' BAN
DELIGHT AT DECISION. PROGRESS OF GAME IN N.Z. AtTCKLANDER FOR FRANCE. ' (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, December 23. The Rugby League ban on the poaching of colonial playere will operate until December 31, 1940. Mr. H. Sundefland, manager of the Kangaroos, addressed the council on the progress of the game in New Zealand. He considered the present the opportune time to extend an encouraging hand, with a view of having a NewZealand visit to England in 1939, if the form and character of the players continued to develop on recent lines. The council will give consideration to this at its January meeting. The former Auckland three-quarter, Roy Hardgrave (Newton), will make his debut with a French Rugby League club in January. A cablegram from Sydney laet evening stated that Mr. H.*R. Miller, secretary to the Australian Rugby League, expressed delight at the decision of the English League to stop the "'poaching" of Australian and Xew Zealand playere.. He said: "This is the best news* for years, and is bound to restore confidence in and improve the standard of football here and in New Zealand."
