SMOKE SCREEN.
DEVELOPS A COLD. NOT COMING TO ELLERSLIE. (By Telegraph—'Special to "Star.") WANGANUI, this day. The withdrawal of Smoke Screen from his Auckland engagements is due to the fact that he contracted a bad cold on Sunday night. His trainer, D. T. Marks, had made all arrangements to leave for Auckland last Monday with Smoke Screen and Taurangi, but had to leave Smoke Screen behind. This is most unfortunate, as the gelding had been galloping particularly well, and his prospects of winning a race at Ellerslie appeared very bright. Taurangi is a much-improved filly, and promises to give a good account of herself next week.
