EXCELLENT COMEDY.

"OVER SHE GOES."

COLOURFUL PRODUCTION.

Humour, colour and "snap" were provided at His Majesty's Theatre last night when the J.C. Williamson New Musical Comedy Company opened their Auckland season. Colourful and original were many of the ballet costumes, while the modern frocks worn by the principals made a stage presentation of variety and charm.

Miss Valerie Hay, the principal lady of the company, made her first entrance in a smart riding suit comprising nut brown breeches and powder blue cloth coat, and finished with white stock and white lapels. Her next frock was a dainty opal blue organdy, made with flowing long skirt and a silver lame swathed sash at the waist. Her third frock was a tailored spun silk made on very simple lines and finished with canary coloured waist belt, buttons and all accessories matching. Another gown was of white crepe, worn with a short black velvet jacket and black accessories. Her last gown was of white cire lace, the long skirt having a cascade bustle at the back of the waist line.

Miss Lois Green, as Dolly Jordon, wa» a charming figure in her many frocks, her first entrance being in beige corded riding breeches and bottle green coat, with white stock. Her second gown was of white crepe with apple green taffeta, ruffles forming the big puff sleeves. Another dainty gown was made of lily of the valley green chiffon, fashioned with a very full skirt. Her last frock, of white silk, was tailor-made, and had coloured buttons, with accessories to match. Miss Billy Worth, as Kitty Dcarden, made her first entrance in a smart white riding suit, with gold buttons. In her featured number her playboy suit was of royal blue satin, with white sharkskin short coat. Another well-cut frock was of white blister crepe trimmed with cherry. Miss Enid Hollins, as Alice Mayhill, wore the lovely frocks of the production. Her white maroeain had wide bands of white fox fur for cuffs, and topped with a crownless white felt hat. Her second dress was of Air Force blue crepe, made in tunic fashion. Sunrav pleated gold lame comprised the other frock, long angel sleeves of flame chiffon giving an added colour effect.

Miss Nellie Strong's mustard coloured tailored suit was trimmed with leopard fur, and her evening gown of green chiffon was made with diagonal tucks.

The ballet was strikingly colourful, ti«)e opening chorus of girls and men wearing perfectly cut hunting suits. Cream taffeta with huge clusters of lavender patterned flowers, large green velvet hats and wide green taffeta sashes, made one of the most striking colour ensembles of the evening. Negliges in shimmering satins and shaded chiffons was another striking and delightful effect.
