Amicable relations now exiet between Ihr honornry staff and the Auckland Hospital Hoard, it was reported to the board last evening by the chairman, the lie v. \V. C. Wood. He hail been informed, lie said, that the majority of the j honorary staff were in favour of the appointment of the proposed directors of medicine ami surgery at the hospital, mid the schedule of duties for those officers had been drawn up in consultation with three representatives of the honorary staff. These schedules of duty, as well as that of the new secretary to be appointed were approved by the hoard, and applications are now to be called for the posts. The committee responsible for the draft schedule consisted of Mr. Wood, Mrs. M. M. Dreaver, Dr. E. B. Gunson, Messrs. W. A. Bishop and G. T. Parvin, and they were assisted by Dr. Kenneth MacCormick, Mr. Frank Macky and Dr. T. VV. J. Johnson. Mr. Wood pointed out that the grievance had been repeated that the hoard had not consulted with the honorary staff before proceeding to the creation of the two offices. He had assured them, however, that no action taken by the board was intended a« a reflection on the work of the honorary staff. They merely wished to introduce the most satisfactory eystem of supervision and control. The meeting of the committee had been a happy one and cordial relations had beeii'established. An amendment introduced by Mr. E. H. Potter that the question should be held over until after the Government bad introduced its national health scheme, and its report on the staffing of hospitals, and until after the general election, was seconded by Mr. W. G. Mulholland, but defeated, and so too was an amendment movqd Jjy Mr. Mulholland to defer consideration of the conditions of appointment of the new secretary until March. These amendments received only the support of Messrs. Potter and Mulholland.
