RECURRENT STRIKES.
TIME LOST THIS YEAR. 9677 WORKERS AFFECTED. Industrial strikes throughout the Dominion caused an aggregate lose of 23,320 days' work during the nine months ended September 30, according to figures published in the latest "Abstract of Statistics." In the same period last year 12,652 days' work was lost. There was a total of 42 disputes, involving 62 firms and 9677 workers. The approximate loss in wages was £22,577, against £9236 for the same period last year. The results were most serious in the coalmining industry, where altogether 9846 working days were lost, and employees lost £10,026 in wages. Losses of time and wages in the meat freezing industry were about half those in coalmining. The largest number of disputes was in water transport, but the effects were less serious. There were 13 disputes, involving 2546 workers, who lost 4095 working days in the aggregate and £2702 in wages.
