ROAD CONDITIONS.
EAST CAPE—WAIKAREMOANA.
PATROL'S FAVOURABLE REPORT
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
ROTORUA, this day.
An Automobile Association patrol officer who returned on Sunday from a trip round the East Cape route and through Waikaremoane nack to Rotorua reported that road conditions over the greater part of the route are very good. The only difficulty encountered was at the ford over the Raukokere River, where several cars had become stuck owing to the soft nature of a portion of the river bottom. Profiting by the unhappy experience of those who had gone before him, the patrol rushed the soft spot and crossed without becoming stuck. A pile driver has now orrived at the Raukokere camp, and the contractors are making preparations to sink piles for the bridge, which, it is hoped, will be completed by the end of May. Timber has also been delivered at the Whangaparaoa camp, near Cape Runaway, where the Public Works Department will construct a bridge Over the river. The patrol reported that good progress is being made with reconstruction work in the vicinity of Waikaremoana. The section between Marupara and Te Whaiti is now completed, and the section between Te Whaiti and Ruatahuna is almost completed. A considerable amount of work has still to be done between Ruatahuna and the Lake Hotel, but the conditions should not present difficulty to motorists during the holiday period. The patrol returned by way of the Galatea Estate end reported that the road through the valley was in very Lrood order, and that this route provided & most interesting, deviation.
