RACING DRIVERS.

BIG MARCH MEETING.

STOCK CARS VERY FAST,

Decision to hold one important race meeting ,n March and to conserve its funds for Bllc h a meeting instead of holding a series of small meetings, as in the past was reached when the New Zealand Motor Racing Drivers' Association held a general meeting and social evening last night.

Pointing out that one of the association's troubles had always been in the matter of prize money, the chairman Mr A. Dexter, said that a big meeting in March, for which funds would be conserved and for which admission fees would be charged the public, would enable real prizes to be paid. These would be a recompense for the trouble and expense entailed drivers, and would also compensate them for the wear and tear the cars suffered by racing. Prizes in proportion to the gate money alone were not attractive.

Mr. Dexter mentioned also the possibility of making greater provision for stock cars. The recent meeting at Muriwai had shown that many of them were capable of beating the racing cars.

The chairman's proposal was supported by Mr. J. Mathieson, who said the association could not hope to compete with the midget cars, which would be racing in Auckland this season. A meeting, where the public was entertained by races run to time and where the drivers were paid their prize l money promptly, would be a real success. Messrs. J. Harley and P. Lewis guaranteed donations toward the expenses of the meeting.

A committee comprising Messrs. J. Hedlund, I. Oiinn, (I. Mathieson, C. G. Johns. R. Grierson and P. Lewis was appointed to investigate the possibilities of bolding a gymkhana for older models.

Mr. G. Hunter was elected secretary of the association. The chairman reported a membership of 141, and a. Bank balance of £58.
