BALL OF FIRE.
SPECULATION AROUSED. THEORIES OF SUPERSTITIOUS. CALCUTTA, October 21. A phenomenon in the skies on a recent night caused much speculation among superstitious natives. Late in the night there flashed through the sky, from west to east, a ball of fire seen by people over an area from Rangoon to Tungoo. Pyinniana and other towns in Lower Burma. It lit up the neighbourhood as it | passed. One observer deseril>ed it as like a searchlight, another said it appeared to be about an eighth of the size of the moon and had tongues of !flame, while the tail, which was of a jfair length. ap|>ea.red to be ..f J red. orange and green lights. When it burst into showers of red spark* there was a loud rumbling. Some superstititious people sop in it an indication that the Sino-Japanese war will spread to the west, others say that it was the legendary Kala Xaga (a gnat or spirit) flying through the air: others still maintain that it was a hidden treasure shifting from oae place to another. — "J
