Piako River Works.—The Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, advised he had requested the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, to arrange for provision in the supplementary estimate of a £-tor-£ subsidy for improvements to the Piako River stopbank. The county engineer advised that the Piako Road would be inspected immediately, and anything to safeguard the road would be done.

Drainage Improvement.—A request by Mr. G. Challis, of Kerepeehi, for better drainage was reported upon by the area members, Mr. F. J. Hamilton and Mr. R. Baker, when it was recommended that the main highway side drain should be improved for 12 to 15 chains. The recommendation was adopted. Amalgamation Opposed.—A letter from the Moutoa Drainage Board stated it was positively against the amalgamation of drainage boards under the proposed bill. The chairman said the views exnressod were identical with the opinions of members of the Hauraki Board. A meeting of chairmen of surrounding drainage bo.nds, held at Ngatea on Thursday, had unanimously agreed that the boards should be excluded from the provisions of the proposed bill. It considered the whole incidence of local body reform should be left to the decision of a Royal Comm'sfion. not to that of one Minister. A resolution was carried stating that the amalgam-itioTi was not in the best interests of the latepayers of drainage boards.
