YACHTING.

TAMAKI CUP DAY.

EIGHTY BOATS COMPETE. RACES FINISH LATE. Very fine weather, with lijrht northerly airs, prevailed on Saturday at the. start of the Taniaki Yacht Club's harbour races in which 80 boats competed. The first prizes in each class were cups donated by friends of the club, and the coinpetition was very keen, especially in the L. V and Z classes. In several races only a few seconds separated the winners on corrected time. So light was the wind that all starts were deferred live minutes, which enabled many boats to reach the starting line, off the clubhouse. The L class of 22-footers started first at 11.55 p.m., the other classes following at intervals of eight minutes. About four o'clock, when all the classes had started and groups of boats in their various classes were making slow headway towards the first mark, off Gower's I'oiut. the wind died away to a calm, coming out shortly after from the south-west, and gradually freshening into a good sailing breeze, which enabled the boats to complete the course, but all were late owing to the loss of over an hour in light airs. The races started and finished off the clubhouse. Bastion Point, where a large number of visitors and members watched the racing. Amongst the visitors were Captain H. H. Sergeant, Messrs. C. H. T. Palnier (chairman) and A. J.
