MISS MITCHELL'S FINE EFFORT-

DOUBLE! TO TWO STARTERS.

With the prospect nf n trip to Sydney Just beyond the tape Auckland's best Athletes went all out at (.inlaw Park on Saturday afternoon when the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association held trials to select representative* to participate in the New Zealand trials to he held in Wellington on Saturday week. The outstanding performance of the day was Miss M. Mitchell's throw of U'2f t'Jin in the women's javelin event. This bettered the present Kmpire (billies record by Oft 6%in. Miss D. Lumley sprinted well to win the 100 and ISO yards women'* events in fast time. V. A. Kinla.vson was leading in the 440 yards hurdles event when a misplaced hurdle threw him off Iris stride and he was beaten by H. D. Bail. A new trial in this event will therefore be held at the Auckland Club's meeting on Saturday. I*. T, Howie, Dominion champion, had a clear-cut win in the 120 yard* hurdles event. Other good performances were registered by J. Q, Loekie, in winning the hammer throw and the discus event, and A. J. Mayers, who won the 220 yards trial in 23n from Goosman, of Hamiltor., and Stenborg, of Auckland. The following abbreviations are used to denote entrant* from the various clubs: — Hamilton (Ham).
