NO ONE WAS IDLE AT THE NAVAL BASE THIS MORNING, when the Achilles, flagship on the New Zealand Station, the cruiser Leander and the Imperial escort vessels Leith and Wellington, accompanied by the mine sweeper Wakakura, sailed for the Hauraki Gulf for periodical combined exercises. Here the Achilles is seen backing astern into the stream, while the small Wakakura, with the pattern VI. target made fast to her port side, is preparing to slip her lines from the training and depot ship Philomel. Later the Philomel was removed to Calliope wharf, preparatory to docking to-morrow.
