PARACHUTE JUMP.
DESCENT FROM 7000 FT. XEW RECORD BY MR. SELLARS. .Turnpin? from an estimated height of 7000ft —sjii<l to be a record for New Zealand- Mr. G. XV. Sellars. the wellknown Auckland parachutist, beat his previous record at Mangcro aerodrome yesterday afternoon by a considerable margin. His previous host jump was from a height of .".HOOft.
For some week* Mr. Scllars has l>ecn awaiting suitable weather for the attempt, and yesterday was almo-t perfect. The aeroplane carrying Mr. Sellars was piloted by Flight-Lieutenant D. M. Allan, club instructor. The parachute came down almost vertically for .".nnnft, later drifting slightly for Mr. Sellars to make his landing on the Manuknu foreshore, about, half a mile flight measurement from the aerodrome.
Mr. Sellars said later that, he descended well over 1000 ft before opening the parachute. There was no wind and he had not carried toward the landing field as anticipated. ft was verv cold at the altitude, but he obtained a glorious view during the descent, he added.
