FOUNDRY STRIKE.
HOLIDAY SYSTEM PROTEST. 180 HANDS INVOLVED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) J DUNEDIN, this day. As a protest against the alleged ' unfair holiday system, all 180 employees < of Shacklock's South End foundry stiuek ! this morning after a stop-work meeting, at which it was decided to cease work for the day. The basis of the men's grievance is ' that instead of the customary closing down on December 24 the management decided to close the works on December 9 and reopen on January 3. The men claim they will lose the"benefit of holiday pay for three statutory holidays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New, Year's Day. * ' The spokesman for the men said they didn't object to the two extra weeks holiday, but to being given two weeks lA'illie I'll! istlMiiS. *
