WAR IN SPAIN.
"Irish," on being asked to furnish facts, produces the usual assertions, and remains as far away from actualities as ever. Let us see what another Irishman, the Rev. Father Michael O'Flanagen, said at a recent meeting in Dublin. "The fight in Spain," he said, "is a fight of the rieli privileged classes against |the rank and file of the poor oppressed people of Spain. The cause being fought for in Spain is nearer to tie than is realised. The Foreign Legion and Moorish troops are to Spain what the Black and Tans were to Ireland. The Spaniards didn't send any people to join the Black and Tans here, and they didn't make collections in their churches to help the Black and Tans in Ireland. The Government of Spain was elected by the votes of the people, and on the other side is a body of rebels, mostly the old army. They are just the same type as our own Generals Gough and Carsons* at home. The |>eople who are calling the Spanish' rebels 'patriots' have proved to be very bad judges of patriots in Ireland." "T.E.D.'s" letter contains the usual quotations torn from the sequence in which they were written and can best be judged by his second statement that "the remaining 249 members of the Popular Front followed where they were led. But since they were composed largely of Syndicalists. Anarchists," etc. Now, jthe essence of Anarchism is the organisation of the workers in trade unions, their opposition to all forms of political parties, their belief in refraining from voting at all, and, of course, the fact that they do not have any members in the Popular Front Government. Senor Del Vavo, in answering similar accusations, said: "Ours is not a 'Red' Government. It k a coalition, in which the so-called 'Reds' are a small minority. The directors of our policy are not 'Reds,' but the r 'Red'-baiting Tress will ncrt listen to even their own correspondents reporting from Spain." G. E. JACKSON".
