DEMAND FOR ORANGES. ROOT VEGETABLES CHEAPER. STRAWBERRY SUPPLIES INCREASE. There was a good demand to-day for hothouse tomatoes and strawberries at the City Markets, the latter realising lower values. Larger quantities of strawberries were available, and they should continue increasing. Gooseberries also had a good demand. There was a fair inquiry for cherries, but some lines are coming forward in bad condition.

Oranges were In good demand, lemons fair, and there was also a fair inquiry for grapes. Apples had a fair demand, but pears were slow of sale.

The Monterey to-day brought a quantity of Californian giapes and pomegranates for Auckland.

The Matua is expected on Monday with a large cargo of bananas, principally from Fiji and Samoa. Other fruits on the Matua include pawpaws, pineapples and watermelons.

Loganberries, lid to 1/3 per chip. Gooseberries: 6/6 to 8/ per case. Cherries: Extra choice, 9/ to 11/ per case; others, poor condition, 4/6 to 8/. Mushrooms: 2/ to 2/6 per lb.

Good Vegetable Supplies. Cabbage and cauliflower were again in heavy supply, with prices slightly better than last week.

Ureen peas were in good supply, and sold at recent rates.

Increased quantities of outdoor beane were available to-day, and prices were lower. Steady values ruled for new potatoes, which were in good supply. Small quantities of new season's ouions were available, and hothouse and outdoor cucumbers were available in heavy supply. CarroUf, parsnips, beet and marrows were in heavy supply, and eold at slightly reduced values.

Very good quality lettuce is now coming forward. (Quotations: —

Poultry Slightly Cheaper. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry wasfefairly heavy and the demand was jiwt medium. The prices paid were a shade lower for most lines. Selling rates were as follow: — Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 4/ to 5, ti each, not prime 2/6 to 3. 9; light breeds, prime 2/9 to 3/6, not prime 2, 6 to 3/. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime 3/ to 3/6; light breeds, 2/ up. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 2,6 to 4/; light breeds, 2/ to 3/. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 3 6 to 6,', smaller 3/ up; light breeds, best 3,6 to 4/6, smaller 3/ upp. Drakes: Young, prime 3/ to' 4/; smaller, 2/ up. Ducks: Young. 3A to 3/6; old, 2/ up. Drakes: Old, 2/6 to 3/6. Cockerel chicks: Heavy Weds, 6d to 1/6; light breeds, 4d to Eggs Unohanged. Eggs.—Hen: First grade, per dozen; B grade, 1/6%; G grade, 1/Ott.
