(By Telerrapn.—Own Correspondent.)
NEW PLYMOUTH, this day
Owing to lack of business, the Taratiaki Farmers' Tannery Company, which lias been established for sixteen years, closes its doors on Saturday next till trade improves and a payable price can fcc obtained for leather.
A representative of the company ittited to-day that the company could Hot continue to manufacture at a loss. It had big supplies of leather that it could not sell at a payable price owing Ito the disorganisation of the tanning trade. Thronarhout the depression the !Kew Plymouth tannery had sold ito product, but it could not compete with Ithe cheap prices ruling at present owing fto the rise in the cost of production and the low price* of importations.
