« PENNIES FROM HEAVEN."
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WHASGAREI, this day.
Every drop of rain that has fallen in Northland in the past few days has been as a penny from heaven. Since Tuesday the total recorded in Whangarei has been l.Olin, including a fall of .64in for the 24 hours up to 9 a.m. to-day.
The weather cleared-this morning and the eun shone through heat clouds to make the temperature oppressive.
Although the long, dry spell will eventually do an immense amount of good, through drying and sweetening the eoil, it has hit some fanners very hard. The weather of the past few weeks has been more like that of January than of spring, and as one local stockman said this morning, there has been no spring at all.
