ASSISTANCE TO SOLDIERS.

A SINGLE MAN'S COMPLAINT.

(To the Editor.)

I I thank your paper for publishing my letter under the above heading, and, secondly, I thank the editor for his reply. As we are classed by a Government doctor to be unfit for heavy work we cannot get work and the Government cannot get us work. The Government has given married men on sustenance including unfit married soldiers, four months' work out of twelve on standard wages. The Government refuses to give unfit single soldieri one day's work. Our R.S.A. clubs are too poor to help single soldiers decently. Married soldiers come first. Metropolitan relief committees refuse to give us clothes because we are single. That is a notice we receive every time clothing is about to be given out. The Patriotic Society refuses to grant us financial assistance because we are not in receipt of pensions. I and hundreds of similarly placed comrades will be grateful to the secretary of the Patriotic Association, who states we can get relief from various sources, if he will tell ns of any sources other than those mentioned above. We will gladly await his reply as to when and where this help can be obtained. lam a front-line soldier and proud of it. I have a war disability from which I am suffering, but in view of my previous letter I will now be known, so therefore will stand no chance against any board doctor. I perhaps may have done myself harm, but in doing po I hope I have done my comrades a lot of good. On Armistice Day, whilst millions were paying homage to the dead, we—the forgotten ineii—were drawing our sustenance, with no chance of a job and Christmas almost here.

C HEERLESS CHRISTMAS.
