LETTERS BY AIR MAIL.
I . NEW RECORD ANNOUNCED. •GRATIFYING INCREASE." (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The greatest number of letters posted for the inland air mail services since the first week of operation of the services was recorded during the week ended November 7, said the PostmasterGeneral, the Hon. F. Jones, in a statement. During the week ended March 22, 1930, when the majority of the letters comprised stamp collectors' first day covers, 36,793 ktters were posted, and the new record total was 36,795. Mr. Jones said the average number of i letters carried weekly on the inland air services in April of last year was 12.320. \ Durins last month the we.kly average \was 32,330. , "The gratifying increase shown by the .Ilatest figures." added the .Minister, "is ' due principally to the inauguration of the through same-day ■service from Auckland to Dunedin. and to some extent Ito the extension to Palmerston North 1 of the Gisbome-Xapier service, witli its - daily connection both ways with tbo .trunk service."
