A Word Square Puzzle
Those who had so much fun with the word oblong puzzles a oouple of years ago will welcome the return of this fascinating type of competition. Fill in the blank squares in each letter of the word "STAR" so as to make complete words. The words must interlock, as in a crossword puzzle. You have an example of how it is done with- the letter "S." The two three-letter words there interlock with the three four-letter words.
Fill in your entry on the form provided, cut out alorvg the dotted lines, and send it to

The competition is open to all readers under the age of eighteen. The twenty-four prizes will be awarded to the competitors who send in lists containing the highest totals. Six of the prizes must be awarded to entrants under twelve, regardless of totals.
All the words used must be those to be found in a standard English dictionary. No affixes, prefixes, suffixes or abbreviations must be used. Foreign, obsolete, dialect or colloquial words are not permissible.
From the value chart you can find the number value of the words. Write the total for each letter in the square allotted and then find the grand total
Entries from town readers must reach this office by Saturday, November 20, and from country readers by Monday, November 22. The results will be published on Wednesday, November 24.
