SHORTAGE OF MEN.
WAIHI BOROUGH SUBSIDY.
EXTRAORDINARY POSITION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, thia day. An extraordinary position was revealed when the Waihi Borough Council applied to the loca' labour bureau for the services of four men to do subsidised work. It was found that no able-bodied registered unemployed men were available, and that the officer in charge needed some 30 men to take up work in other places. The council had received authority from the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, to employ four men for four months for the formation of a children's playground on the council's land in Seddon Street. The work will be subsidised by the Department to the extent jof £4 per week for each man. The council's problem is whe*e to find the men.
