RATEPAYERS PROTEST.
EXPENDITURE OPPOSED.
HOSPITAL BOARD LOAN*
(From Our Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Friday.
"It is with some degree of satisfaction that we note that the Wellington City I Council has decided to protest against the proposal of the Wellington Hospital Board to raise an additional £159.250 beyond the £600.000 already authorised by the Local Bodies' Loans Board, for the purpose of building a new hospital in Wellington," says the Wellington Katepayers' Association in a statement. "Practically every contributing borough and the Wellington City Council has taken exception to the extravagant proposals of the Wellington Hospital Board, but unfortunately with but little result.
"An elaborate hospital will, of course, be appreciated, but can a limited number of ratepayers continue to meet the exorbitant demands of extravagant local bodies? The Government should—with its opportunity for a wide view of the field—have realised that so large a scheme should be a national responsibility and not that of a body of local ratepayers limited in number."
