LOUD SPEAKER SYSTEM.
GOVERNMENT PURCHASE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Friday. During discussion of the estimates of the Internal Affairs Department in the House of Representatives to-day, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Hamilton, expressed curiosity concerning a vote of £700 to cover the price of a loudspeaker for use at official functions in Parliament grounds. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, said that up to the present the practice had been to hire loud-speaker equipment when it was required for use at official functions. There was invariably great difficulty in making the necessary arrangements for the hire of the equipment, and for that reason the Government had bought its own loudspeaker system.
