WELLINGTON, Friday.
The whole of to-day's sitting was devoted to consideration of the Estimates, and when the House adjourned six classes had been passed, involving the expenditure of £8,237,204. The Pensions Department vote accounted for nearly f7,000,000 of this total.
The Internal Affairs Department vote was debated throughout the morning sitting and the closure was applied by the Prime Minister a few minutes before the luncheon adjournment and the vote was passed. An item of £5000 for the visit abroad of the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, received some criticism, Mr. Nash, in a vigorous speech, justifying his trip. He said beneficial results had accrued, and in support of this contention a Government member commented that the small expenditure which was queried had returned a dividend of £1,000,000.
Pensions were thoroughly discussed during the afternoon, the returned soldier coming in for special attention.
