TELEGRAPHIC HOLD-UP.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association t WKLLIXt ; i'OX, Tuesday. There was an unusual reason for an interruption in telegraphic communication with South Wand stations south of Kaikoura to-day. Owing to the prolonged dry spell the coatings of insulators had become covered with dust, and the effect of drizzling rain on this was a loss of insulation sufficient to prevent the use of multiplex equipment. The position adjusted itself when sufficient rain had fallen to wash the insulators. The trouble commenced shortly after 10 o'clock this morning, and it was not until 1 o'clock in the afternoon that the Department was able to employ the equipment in the ordinary way. By 3 o'clock all arrears of traffic had been cleared and the position was normal.
