ON FRENCH STEAMER. Crew Fired On When Refusing To Leave Ship. ESCAPE OF WAR 'PLANE. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 1.30 p.m.) BARCELONA, November 4. A running: ait* fight off Mataro followed an attack from the air on the French merchantman La Corse, whose crew refused to stop when ordered to abandon ship by the threeengined war 'plane. The 'plane dived down and bombed and machine-gunned the La Corse's decks, wounding some of the crew, who sent out an S.O.S. to Barcelona, and then took to the boats. Meanwhile three Government fighters engaged the war 'plane. One Government 'plane was shot down, the pilot parachuting into the sea, where he was rescued by, fishermen. Two French warships steamed at full speed from Barcelona, but the war "plane was driven off when they reached the La Corse. The crew returned to the ship and are taking her to Marseilles.
