DIAMOND RING CASE.
I TWO CHARGES PROVED.
BUTCHER FOR SENTENCE,
After a short retirement vestcrdav afternoon the jury which heard the charge of theft of a diamond ring, and three charges of false pretences against Alan Edwin Browne, aged 21, a butcher, returned a verdict of guilty on two of the three charges of false pretences. The case was heard before Mr. Justice Fair, the accused l>cing represented by Mr. K. Aekins. Mr. V. R. Meredith prosecuted on behalf of the Crown.
The. allegations of the Crown were published in last evening's "Star." Evidence was given that accused had represented tlmt he was a jockey, that he had won £31)0 at the races, that the money was being held by his financial manager, and through these representations had obtained a ring valued at £105 from Mr, I'fister, a jeweller. Later the ring lifld been sold to another jeweller for £35, but, by representing that he could make a better deal and get perhaps £80 for the ring, he had got it back to make the deal. However, instead of Wing sold again the ring was returned to its original owner. Hrowne was remanded for sentence.
