LEAGUE CONTROL.

MEETING OF BOARD.

PARK IMPROVEMENTS. , GOOD WORK BY LADIES. At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Control Board hwt evening, Air. G. Grey Campbell presiding, acceptance of the tender for the flood-lighting installation at Carlaw Park was confirmed. On the recommendation of Air. Ivan Culpan, who said lie had the approval of his ■ co-tnistee, Mr. W. J. Haminill, the Hum of £20 held from the old (Jlee Club was transferred to the now injured players' fund. Mr. Culpan also reported that the special South African grass recommended by Air. 1'- W. Day, manager of the Springboks, had already been tried with success at Carlaw Park. The new grass was proving efficacious ou bad parts of the playing areas. In reply to a letter from the Canterbury League dealing with its teams' tour next season, it Mas decided to advise that the New Zealand Council was calling a conference early next year at which all interinovincial and special match dates would be dealt with. The New Zealand Rugby League advised that the recently-proposed transfer rule, governing players going from one league to another, was now in Operation. Plans for next year would be discussed at a conference to be called. An application by the St. John Ambulance Brigade for the use of Carlaw Park on the occasion of a forthcoming visit by the chief commissioner, Colonel G. Barclay, was left in the hunds of the secretary. Dr. Keith H. Piper thanked the board for courtesies extended to him as honorary medical officer during his stay in Auckland from Sydney. A pleasing feature was the attendance of the ladies' social committee, on behalf of which Mrs. Culpan reported on the charity work done this year, during which 365 visits had been paid to the hospital and homes of players. Assistance in various forms had necessitated an expenditure of nearly £100. The chairman, paying a tribute to the committee, said the work done was no doubt unique in the sports world. While the board of control thanked the ladies, it was probable that the value of their

charity activities was beyond words. The gratitude of flayers and parents was considerable. Messrs. D. Wilkie, F. T. McAneny, W. Mineham, J. W. l*robert, T. Davis and R. Doble also spoke appreciatively, and members were the guests of the ladies' committee at supper.
