FLOOD-LIGHTING.
CARLAW PARK SCHEME
IMMEDIATE INSTALLATION*.
C'arlaw Park i» to be improved by the installation of niglit flood-lighting facilities, a tender having been accepted by the trustees of the Auckland Rugby League, acting in conjunction with the board of control.
The move has been hastened by the fact that the demand for footbal'l and other attractions by night is increasing in other countries,* and the probability that intensive training and matches wiil be essential earlier than usual next year, because of the visit to New Zealand of a French team and the departure of a New Zealand team to Australia. "The board has been considering the question of night football for some tiin? past," said the chairman. Mr. f!. (irey Campbell, to-day. "and we also desire to make the ground a more attractive centre where athletic sports, boxing, wrestling, band contests and other attractions may be staged to the best advantage."
The introduction of the new lighting equipment will necessitate the erection of four steel towers to carry the clusters of fittings for the lights, the work will occupy about two months and will not interfere with the use of the park for public gatherings.
