NEXT SATURDAY'S GALA.

MAORIS TO MEET PAKEHAS

Keen interest is being taken in»the gala which hae been arranged tor Carlaw I'aik next Saturday, for the purpose of raiKing lunds to establish an injured play em' fund. The fixture will be held under the auspices of the Auckland Rugby Lieague Amalgamated Senior Clubs Officers' Association, and a fine dav'e entertainment, is promised. The Auckland Rugby .League, which is in accord with the movement launched by the association, has granted the line of the park for the day, and approved of a board of truetees being set up to administer the funds that may be derived from the gala. The programme arranged ie of a varied nature, and ouo which is likely to appeal to all tastes. Proceedings will commence with a mock court at 2 p.m., and following that there will be an exhibition of American basketball by two of the leading Auckland teams. There will also be items by a Maori concert party, a burlesque ladies' football match and a football relay race.

1 he final event of the day will be the match between thirteene representing the Maoris and Pakehas. The game promises to be productive of plenty of thrills, as two splendid side* have been chosen to fifrht out the issue. On Friday evening decorated lorriee with the Ponsonby Boys' Band will travel through the main streets of the city for the purpose of drawing attention to the gala, which has every indication of being a success. The following team has been selected to play ajrainst the Maoris:—Backs- Glover Midjrley, McLaren, Donovan (Mariet), Smith (North Shore), Stockley, Black (Ponsonhy), Furnell (Richmond). Forwards: Leatherharrow. Ounninj* Herrine (Mount Albert). Breed. Anderson (Marist). Donald (City), Gault (Manukau). Training will be held at Carlaw Park next Thursday evening at 7.30 p.m.
