The only one of the visiting Austra. lian team to survive v.is Miss S Tol hurst. The results were:— Mrs. ft. Hollis (Hawere,) heat Mies E M. Hutton (Victoria), 2 and 1. Mies J. Be Us (Xeleon) beat Miss J Horwell (Tiinaru). 3 and 2. Miss S. Tolhurst (Victoria) beat Mrs. D. Wilson (Hutt), 4 and 3. Mies P. He lean (Hafclingh) beat Mrs. Morpeth (Victoria), at the 19th.

Large galleries of spectators and competitors watched the contests with keen interest. In the match between Miaeea J. Betts and J. Horwell the former started off ecratcliily to be 3 down after six holes had been played. The seventh was halved in par threes; then Miss Betts turned on par figures to win the next five holes. This her 2 up. Mis* Horwell won the thir. teenth in par four. The ehort fourteenth was halved in threes, after which Miss Betts took the noxt two holes in par figures to win the match, 3 and 2. Miss Horwell. who has been playin* exceedingly well during the tournament! seemed to lose touch in the middle of the game. However it would have taken very jjood figures to have held Betts after the eixth hole.

Mrs. (i. Hollis (formerly Miss Oliver Kay), 1~30 and 1033 champion, and Miss E. M. Hutton (the Victorian who eliminated the Australian champion, Miss B Kernot on Saturday), attracted most interest. Miss Hutton took the first hole by sinking a 15ft putt in par 4. Mrs. Hollis, after a good drive, sliced her second and holed out in 5. A succession of halves then followed until the eighth was reached. Here Miss Hutton played a poor tee shot, but recovered well and hit a great brassie shot which 1 finished in a bunker alongside the green. She chipped it out but failed to hole in 5, Mrs. Hollis squaring game with a well-played 5. Miss Hutton took the ninth in a birdie 4 to be one up at the turn. The tenth was halved in 4 and Mrs. Hollis again squared the match it the next hole. The twelfth was halved in fours, and Mrs. Hollis took the lead at the thirteenth, with a well-played 4. She secured a three at the next hole, to be two up. She lost the next, but at the sixteenth holed a chip shot from off green, to place her dorniie two. The seventeenth was halved in well-played threes, giving Mrs. Hollis the match, two and one.

By defeating Mrs. Wilson, Mise Tolhurst beeame the sole Australian to enter the semi-finals.

After an exciting duel Miss P. Helean defeated Miss Tolhnnst's sister, Mrs. Sloan Morpeth. wife of the Xew Zealand Open champion in 102S at Dnnedin.

The following players will meet in the semi-final? to be played on Thursday morning: Mrs. G. Hollis v. Mie* J. Betts. Miss S. Tolhurst v. Miss P. Helean.
