STREET ASSAULT.
LABOURER FINED £2. Preferring to believe the evidence of the complainant, whom he described as an inoffensive type of man, Mr. Wyvern Wilson. S.M., in the Police Court to-day fined Albert Vcsey Smith (45), labourer, £2, or three days' imprisonment for assaulting Reginald William Rees. Smith pleaded guilty. It was stated by Sub-Inspector Fox that two constables saw Smith holding Rees by the collar and striking him about the face. The which took place about 6 p.m. on Saturday, was not a serious one. Smith alleged that the complainant had called him a bad name and that he had struck Rees, but Rees denied it. Both men were affected by liquor, Rees more so than .the accused.
