WHEAT PRICES.
BONUS TO GROWERS. SPECIAL CONTRACT SCHEME. The Wheat Committee has decided to pay a bonus of 6d a bushel to growers of the special contract wheat produced in New Zealand last year and reaching the quality standard set by the committee. Wheat of specially selected varieties was chosen by the committee for growing under the special contract, and out of the crop certain lines were found to be of outstanding quality. These have been ground to special lines of flour and distributed to bakers for testing under commercial conditions. ' On these selected lines the bonus of 6d will be paid and the remainder of the contract wheat will be sold at ordinary prices.
The object of the special contract scheme, as stated by the .Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. 1). G. Sullivan, was to inrre.it-v the area sown and to experiment with a view to improving quality.
