CROSSING THE TASMAN

AWATEA AND MONTEREY. AORANGI DUE MONDAY. COLUMBIA ARRIVES TO-MORROW. The Union Company's intercolonial passenger steamer Awatea left her berth at the Queen's wharf a few minutes ! after 5 p.m. yesterday for Sydney. Her | 304 ■passengers received a great send-off, j the Springboks coming in for most atteu- | tion. The vessel's official time of departure was 5.20 p.m., which is the | time she clears port. Much interest is I taken in her crossing, as the weather gives promise of being favourable for a j fast run. She is due at Sydney at 8 a.m. - on Monday, and may be a few hours ! earlier. The Matson liner Monterey, which arrived from San Francisco at 7 a.m. yesterday, had so much cargo to discharge that she did not clear port until 1.5 a.m. to-day. She is expected to make an effort to regain the AucklandSydney record. Should conditions be favourable she will probably arrive at Sydney about 1 p.m. on Monday. The Canadian Australasian liner Aorangi, which left Sydney oil Thursday evening, will arrive at 7.30 a.m. on Monday. She sails at 11 a.m. on Tuesday for Vancouver, via ports-. The Danish motor ship Columbia is expected to arrive from Nauru Island to-morrow. She has 8050 tons of phosphate to discharge here. Matua arrives from the Islands at 7 a.m. on Monday with passengers and fruit. She leaves at 11 p.m. for Wellington. (U.S.S. Co.) Ardenvohr completed loading at noon to-day, and is expected to sail for New York, Boston and Montreal this afternoon. (N.Z.S. Co.)

Chifuku Maru's inward cargo and certain lines of outward, were being handled to-day, and she is expected to leave for Wellington at 5 p.m. (R. and S.. Ltd.) Middlesex is discharging London cargo at the Prince's wharf, and will leave for Wellington on Tuesday. (X.Z.S. Co.) Remuera leaves New Plymouth at 6 p.m. to-day for Auckland, and is due at noon on Monday to complete discharge. (Jf.Z.S. Co.) Sussex ie busy discharging West of England cargo at Queen's wharf, and is expected to leave for the South next Saturday (N.Z.S. Co.)
