NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Northcote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Martin> presiding. Rate Collection.—The assistant town clerk, Mr. W. F. F. Ward, reported that of the £10,587 current rates struck, £4468 had been collected when the 2% per cent rebate date expired. This was 42.2 per cent of the total, compared with £3935, or 37.46 per cent, last year. Perry Time-Table.—lt was decided to inform the Birkenhead Borough Council that a reply had been received from the Devonport Ferry Company giving reasons for the elimination of trips to Chelsea on Saturdays and Sundays, and that the Northcote Council would support all reasonable steps the council might decide to take. Street Collections.—A deputation from the Northcote Women's Progressive League conferred with the council regarding the conduct of street collections authorised by the council, which agreed not to interfere with former arrangements until the combined local bodies decided upon a reduction in the days for collections in any year. Stanford Park.—The Northcote and Birkeimead Ramblers League Football Club wrote expressing appreciation of the facilities provided for practice and matches at the municipal ground in Stafford Road, where the conditions were far superior to the grounds played on in and about Auckland City. Bowling Club.—An invitation was accepted to the official opening for the season of the Waitemata Club's bowling green and croquet lawns on Saturday October 2.
