CHURCHES SOCCER.
MT. ALBERT COMPETITION.
SUCCESSFUL SEASON CLOSES.
I lie Mount Albert Churches Athletic Association, formed a few months ago, concluded its inaugural activity, a Soccer competition, on Saturday, and the opening of this new organisation augurs well for its future success. Though formed somewhat hastily, twelve teams took part in the competition, drawn from the various denominations in the borough, some of the boys never having played the code before, and the age wae confined to under 16. .Two finals were played on Saturday, the championship and the knock-out, and it was satisfactory that in the two competitions four finalists were engaged. Sandringham Baptists won the knock-out from Mount Albert Methodists by the only goal scored, while Mount Albert Presbyterians won the championship by 3—l from Mount Albert Baptists. The final games were played on the Mount Albeit Reserve, and the Mayor, Mr. H. A. Anderson, was present and addressed the boys and officials present. He complimented the latter on their enterprise and also commended the boys on their play. He assured the organisers of the deep interest of himself and the members of the Domain Board in the welfare of the youth of the borough, and assured them of every assistance in their efforts to provide healthy sport in the district. It was announced that Mr. A. F. Haycock had donated a cup for the championship winners, and this he presented to the winners. During the summer months the association is planning cricket competitions and athletic meetings for its rapidly growing membership.
