HEAVY TAXATION.
WAIPA RACING CLUB. IMPROVEMENTS TO COURSE. In congratulating members on the successful Reason at the annual meeting of the Waipa Racing Club on Monday evening, the president, Mr. M. H. Time, referred to the large amount of taxation paid annually to the Government by all clubs throughout the Dominion. The Waipa Club last season provided stakes totalling £2566, while taxation absorbed £4096, the Government thus receiving nearly twiee as much as the owners. This was the bugbear in the balance-sheet. The election of officers resulted: Patrons, Hon. W. Lee Martin and Mr. W. J Broadfoot, M.P.; president, Mr. M. H. Tims (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. A.. S. Wallace,. C F. Storey and Allan Kay; auditor, Mr. G. O. Jourdain; committee, Messrs. A. P. Bond, T. G. Martin S. C. Macky, W. F. Woodward and S. A. Empeon.
Intimating that Mr. F. Quin had written declining renomination as a vicepresident or an any office, the president referred to that gentleman's long association with the club, and his splendid work in "the hard days." All members would be-, sorry to lose his active guidance and help. Mr. Quin had held every office in the club, and rendered a very valuable stewardship. Members unanimously elected Mr. Quin a life member.
Mr. E. H. Cucksey's offer of a trophy for allocation ae the club decided was accepted with thanks.
Dwcueeion ensued on , the proposed building improvements at the course, including the shifting of the grandstand higher up the slope, and terracing the latter, .and eventually the course committee was authorised to proceed with the work. At a subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr. J. T. Young was unanimously re-elected chairman, and the following appointments made: Clerk of course, Mr. R. J. Weal; judge, Mr. A. Tronson; timekeeper, Mr. F. J. McManemin; clerk of scales, Mr. S. C. Macky; bon. surgeons. Dre. Blundell Hiskens, Roberton and Rogers; treasurer, Mr. J. P. O'Sullivan; secretary, Mr. J. G. Wynyard; handicapper, Mr. F. J. McManemin; starter, Mr. M. Crimmins; judicial committee. Messrs. A. H. Storey (chairman). C. F. Storey, A. S. Wallace and M. MclSTair; representative on Country Clubs' Association, Mr. M. H. Tims; representative on Country Clubs Breeders' Association, Messrs. J. T. Young and J. G. Wvnyard: course committee. Messrs. M. H. Time, H. Kay. T. G. Martin. A. H. Storey. W. F. Woodward, M. McNair, J. P. O'Sullivan and J. T. Youne; programme committee. Messrs. Tims, McNair, Kay and A. H. Storey.
