WOMAN'S WEEKLY " The story of the young woman journalist and dancer who captured the love of Italy's dictator, Benito Mussolini, is told in this week's issue of the "New Zealand Woman's Weekly." An attempt was made to hush up the affair, and the world chuckled about the strong man who had fallen for a pair of flashing eyes and raven-black hair. When the police raided her apartment they found 300 photographs of II Duce, personally inscribed in terms of endearment. Although only 29 years old, the woman has had a remarkable career, and, according to her diary of 300,000 words, she combined newspaper work with international espionage. When sent away from Rome at the dictator's request she endeavoured to poison herself. Once the friend of royalty and European statesmen, it is feared that her memory is now gone. "Royalty at Work and Play" is the subject of an interesting article by Hedda Dyson. Royal personages have so many social and civic functions that it is a wonder they can find time for artistic puxpuiits and hobbies. The authoress deals with hobbies which occupied royalty in the past. For film fans there is a- story as to how the friendship between Anne Nagel and Glenda Farrell came about. Under the caption "A Tweeny Tells the World," Margery Godfrey writes humorously of the experiences of a typiste in a trade union office, where all males are addressed as fr ßrother." There are also further exercises—this time for the hip and waist curves. On the pictorial pages are delightful styles for spring and summer brides, inspired by designers in Vienna, as well as spring scenes. Readers of short stories will find three of interest. On the knitting pages are full directions for a jumper made in medallions, and a dainty summer frock for Miss Four Years Old. Then, readers have the choice of ten free patterns.
