THEFT WHILE DRUNK.

"I was drunk." was the explanation George Green, farmer, aged 33. advanced in the Police Court this morning when he pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness in Victoria Street East yesterday, and another of stealing an overcoat valued at £0 0/ belonging to Lloyd Avery Boswell. Green, said Sub-Inspector Fox, was seen at 1.20 yesterday afternoon stealing the overcoat from a parked motor car. In June he was convicted for drunkenness and theft—similar offences. On that occasion while drunk he stole from a motor car. Green was fined 10/ for drunkenness and £0, or 21 days' imprisonment, for the theft. Mr. W. R. McKean. S.M., refused to allow him time to pay the fines.
