BUSINESS SLOWS DOWN. N.Z. INSURANCES LOWER. There has been less activity on 'Change this week, and bidding at this morning's call was rather quiet, with an easier trend over a wide area. In the banking section New Zealands were steady between £2 4/8 and £2 4/11. E., S. and A.'s had a market on a lower level, between £5 16/ and £5 19/6. A feature of the insurance section was a further easing in New Zealands, which sold 9d lower, at £3 4/, South British being unchanged at £5. • Wilsons Cement heid the recent rise with fresh business at £1 2/9, but Grey and Menzies, at 13/6. were 3d easier. Gas shares were lower, sellers offering the ordinaries at £1 1/8 and the contributing at 15/. Farmers' Fertilizer and Taranaki Oils both showed a slight improvement, and in the unlisted section McKenzies were very firm, with buyers at £4 7/ and no sellers. Amongst Australian issues Broken Hill Proprietary and Colonial Sugars were quoted at higher figures. Government stocks were firm at late rates. Broken Hills Improve. Business grew livelier as the morning proceeded, and at noon a good list of sales was recorded. A further rise in Broken Hill Proprietary was an outstanding feature, two parcels of the shares being placed at £4 4/6, showing a rise of 6d since late yesterday. In their first business since May Wairakei sold at a rise of 1/7%. Apart from this the sales list revealed steady or easier values. Commercial Banks, Goldsbrough, Morts, and Electrolytic Zinc preferences were among the stocks traded at lower rates, though in each case the drop was slight.
