NEW LYNN CELEBRATION.

ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY. A large number of members and friends met in the St. Andrew's Hall, New Lynn, on Saturday to celebrate the anniversary of Sir Walter Scott. The chief, Mr. W. Kay, accompanied by Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., guest of the evening were piped in by Piper J. Robertson. Representatives from Auckland St. Andrew's Society and the Scottish Women's Association were accorded a hearty welcome by the chief and members. Mr. W. Gemmell and Mrs. Rattray contributed solos and duets in their usual able manner. During an interval in the concert programme, Mr. C. R Petrie, M.P., gave a short address on the life and works of Sir Walter Scott, pointing out how the writings of Sir Walter had done so much to bring about a better understanding between Scotland and England. The music for the dance programme that followed was provided by Messrs. Allan, Jack and Kay while pipers L. Amor and J. Couper played for the Scottish reels. Mr. D. Campbell being master of ceremonies for the everßng. Supper was served by the ladies' committee, Mrs. Oram Mrs Wilson, Mrs. Laurie, and Miss Thomas' On the call of the chief a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker and artists, also the band.
