A STRONG TEAM.

ADDIHGTON CANDIDATES.

AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVES.

Auckland m fairly well represented at the forthcoming New Zealand Metropolitan lrotting dubs August meeting, ana, judging by the strengcu of the contingent, a good snare oi tne prize money suoum come north. Most of the candidates have shown good form during the pusi season and are m excellent condition. F. J. Smith, the successful Takanini trainer, has previously been in the limelight at Adoington, and he will take a team of three. Tne star of tne trio is undoubtedly King's Warrior, and when seen recently the black pacer was looking exceptionally well. A brilliant pacer overall distances, King's Warrior is also at home in any kind of going, and he should not return empty-hanued. His lorui at the recent Auckland meeting showed that he wad not far from his best, and off 30yds in the chief event on tne opening day at Addington he should beat more tnan beats him.

Although Polly Pan has not raced for a considerable tune, she has been getting tlirough her tasks in a satisfactory manner and will have to be respected in any trotting event she coutests. This mare is a very speedy sort, but is a trifle apt to leave her teet. However, she appears to be improving in this respect ana may be this season will see her displaying an all-round improvement in solidity.

Nervie's last proved the biggest stakeearner in the AuuKland" province uunug me past season, and as tne Australiau-ured racer is still on a handy mark there should u2 iurtner opportunities tor* him bo extend his winning record before the new season is far Nervie's Last, although raced unboppled, is one of the most reliaole pacers in commission, and only on one occasion has he done anything wrong since brought from Australia, and that was when another horse ran into him alter going a furlong. The sou of Don Pronto is not a real stayer, but appears to be improving in this Respect, and has taken a record of 4.26 over the" distance. Perhaps Nervie's Last may be best suited over middle distances at Addington, and he is sure to command attention in his respective engagements in .the three days' racing.

One of the most promising pacers in the North Island is King's Play, and the new season should see him playing a leading part in the decision of races over all distances. The manner in which he disposed of a useful field on the second day of the Auckland meeting last mouth was very impressive, and his prospects in the Queen Mary Handicap look bright off 36yds. Later in the day he is engaged in a mile and a quarter race, and whichever race is selected for the Blue Mountain King gelding he is assured o'f more than his share of support. M. Stewart will handle the gelding in his j races, and as he has had plenty of experience with horses in the south he should have a good idea of how good a horse is needed to be to win at Addington. The improving pacer Great Jewel is down to contest the middle class races, and he would only have to leave the mark reasonably well to have good prospects. He is now a member of R. B. Berry's stable, and this accomplished reinsman should not experience any trouble in placing the Jewel Pointer gelding to advantage. Great Jewel has a brilliant turn of speed, while he gives every indication of developing into a solid two-mile pacer.

Although he has raced reasonably well during the last couple of seasons, Ironside may find the class to which he is opposed at Addington a shade beyond him. However, he does nothing wrong,, and he will probably be in a leading position for themajor portion of the journey. There are several ex-Aucklanders also engaged at the fixture in Ktfini, Golden Eagle, Waikato Prince, Great Admiral, Raider, Aircraft and Worthy Light, and their performances also are sure to attract plenty of attention.
