DOMINION COUNCIL.

TRIAL MATCH ARRANGED. Disappointment with the decision not to stage the inter-Island match was expressed in letters received from the Canterbury and West Coast Rugby League by the New Zealand Rugby Leßgue last night. Mr. J. Redwood, the president, pointed out that the council also regretted the position, but it was impossible to do so without risking the incurring of severe loss because a suitable date for the use of Carlaw Park so far could not be arranged. The chairman said the South Island players were not being neglected. The South Island selector had witnessed the .Northern Union Cup match at Greymouth and would iiominate players for a trial match at Carlaw Park on Wednesday, July 28 In view of this it was felt inadvisable to send a North Island selector ta C/liristchurch to witness the return •match between Canterbury and West Coast at Christchurch on July 31. when George Nepia will play for Canterbury. Ihe arrangements made by the council executive for the New Zealand selectors were confirmed. George Nepia Available. The New Zealand Maori team selectors, Messrs J Rukutai, E. K. Asher and the Rev. W N. Panapa, notified the nomination of the following players for selection to play against Australia on August 11Nepia, Bioughton, Hemi, Cootes (Wellington), Watene, Wilson and Hughes (Bay 'of Plenty) Tukere (South Auckland), Mataira, Mahima, Mitchell, Kavmoiid, R. and T. Chase, Rata, Bickertoh, McLeod. Tawhai, Kawe, Brodrick Tristram, Pickrang, Cootes (Auckland) and R. and W. Brimble. The Railways Department advised that special train arrangements would be made from Whangaiei to Auckland on the occasion of the New Zealand match against Australia on Saturday, August 7. The Department stated that it was impossible to arrange a special train from Wellington on that date. Ths Trans-Tajman Cup. Writing from- Sydney, Mr. R. 0. Courtney wrote advising that his handsomely remodelled Trans-Tasman Cup, originally won by Australia in 1935, would be available for competition in August between the two countries.

Mr. E. Tremain, of Devonport, and formerly of Taupiri, was welcomed as delegate for South Auckland, vice Mr. 8. Farrar, appreciation of whose services were minuted.
