ORAKEI PA.
The decision regarding the removal of the Orakei pa has not come before it was necessary. The Orakei pa is nothing more than a collection of tumbledown shacks and hovela minus sanitation, and if "Equal Rights" children had to attend the same school as the Maori children from the settlement and become infested with the same sores, etc.. as the neighbouring white children do. I don't think he would be quite so enthusiastic about their retention. The Maori has no idea of hygiene and we recently had a medical report published in the "Star' deploring the mingling of the Maori and pakeha in the schools on these grounds. I think I can safely say that not only the residents of the "mansions'' on the hill, but the more humble mothers of Mission Bay and Kohimarama will be heartily glad to eee the removal of the Maoris from Orakei. In any case, the Maoris sold their land at a good price when Orakei had not the easy access it has now. and, like everyone else, they cannot have their cake and eat it. too. NGATWr.
