Y.M.C.A. APPEALS FOR FUNDS.
The Y.M.C.A. in Auckland is making its appeal for funds at an opportune time. There is a growing awareness among men and women, particularly parents, that the youth of this generation stands in need of characterforming occupation in leisure time. This is 'so not because youth has changed, but because its environment is obviously different from that in which the last generation grew up. Not only is there more leisure time, but there is a j great increase in the number and variety of I cheap pleasures, which are harmless if enjoyed j in moderation but damaging to character when pursued to excess. The temptation to youth to become spectators and listeners is greater than ever it was before. An important part of the Y.M.C.A.'s work consists in providing opportunity for boys and young men to "do" things—the things of their choice—rather than watch them being done, and in this alone it gives valuable service to the community. It now wishes to widen the scope of its work in the city and suburbs, as well as to intensify the activities in the headquarters building. The community has an opportunity to show in tangible form its appreciation of Y.If.C.A. J work. J
