THREE DAYS' PRISON.
SUSTENANCE FRAUDS. FOUR MEN SENTENCED. (By Teleyraja—Press Association.) DUNEDTN, this day. Four men who on Friday admitted 40 charges involving sustenance frauds, William Albert Sutherland, Douglas Robert Forrester, Andrew Lee Baird and Hugh Wilson Gray, were to-day sentenced to three days' imprisonment, already served while on remand, and were admitted to probation for twelve months. The magistrate, Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M., also directed that they should make restitution of the money secured by the false declarations. The magistrate said the legislation did not provide for an imprisonment penalty if the charge was made under the Unemployment Promotion Act. A number of charges had been brought under that Act and as far as that Court was concerned these were the first brought under the Justices of the Peace Act.
