Australians' Deplorable Exhibition. SPRINGBOKS DISAPPOINTED. (Received 10 lis.) SYDXEY, this day. The "Sydney Morning Herald" special representative, commenting on Saturmatch at Brisbane, where South Africa beat a combined fifteen, says:— "The Springboks' crashing defeat of a side that included five members of Australia's Test team was a surprise. The game generally was disappointing. The outstanding feature was the success of the 19-year old Bester on the right wing. "Bester never before played on the wing, but he showed great dash." Mr. Sid King, writing in the "Daily Telegraph," states: "The composite team dubbed 'an Australian fifteen," which played the Springboks at Brisbane, showed to what an utter farce these matches can descend. The Springboks were not extended at any part. It was a deplorable exhibition, which, for the good name of the Rugby Union, must never be allowed to recur. "P. J. Xel, the African captain, generously refrained from expressing the disappointment which the visitors felt at not being provided with a better fight. C. H. Towers, the combined captain, said a team cannot be made in 10 minutes." Mr. King adds: "The Springboks were not to blame. They did everything to keep the game open and fast, and gave a bright exhibition. The Australians did nothing constructive."
