A FIRMER TONE. G. J. COLES IMPROVE. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, tbia day. As the date of the dividend announcement by G. J. Coles draws nearer the market is firming steadily. This morning sales were made up to £5 6/ and £5 5/9, compared with £5 3/9 on Saturday. Closing offers were strong. There was a generally firm tone "through-; out the quotation list, and though one/ or'; two metals eased a fraction, sales of industrial shares brought solid prices. Broken Hill Proprietary improved 2d, Dunlops 2d and Hume Pipes 2d. Buyers finished at £4 1/ for the first-named. In the banking section Commercials and New South Wales were unaltered, and New Zealands remained 9 close at late rates, with a market from £2 4/6 to £2 5/. Buying orders for Kaiapoi Woollens moved up a few points, sellers asking 14/3 for the 17/ paids and 18/6 for the preferences. Breweries slackened. New Zealands, fullypaid, were quoted between £2 11/ and £*2 W» compared with business on Saturday at £2 12/6. Cpntributings finished with sellers at the last sale price of £ 1 17/. Mount Lyells sold unaltered among; mining shares, but Broken Hill Souths were 6d lower, at £2 8/6; with further buyers at that .figure. Morgans and Rawang Tins were each Id , stronger.
